Spelling mistakes

One more addition to the post below! It's really typos and spelling mistakes on mass-produced literature, public signs and national TV that really bug me. Please don't think that I'll go into fits if you e-mail me and there are spelling mistakes. I'd be lying if I told you I don't notice, but I promise not to nitpick (unless you're asking me to proof something) and probably won't bring it up (unless it's REALLY hilarious). I'll let you in on a secret. I didn't know how to spell 'difficult' until I was 18. I was mortified. I also didn't know how to spell 'cannula' until Lydia had to come home on one, and after I had been spelling it wrong for about a month. So there you go.

ugggg. Did anyone think to tell me that I had spelt burp cloths, burp clothes?? I actually went back to edit 'burp' as I had originally written 'burb' ...yet managed to miss the next word. Sigh. BTW, CNN spelt mortgages 'mortages' the other night. CNN. There's also an ad on TV for the new show, 'Lie to me'. There are words flying across the screen in the ad and one of them is spelt wrong. I don't remember which it is, I just remember it was wrong and it jumped off the screen to hit me in the head to tell me. Who do you e-mail at the TV channels to tell them that they have typos all over national TV? And do they really care?? I actually completely avoid our local Channel 2 news because everytime I watch it I end up ranting and raving at the TV about some spelling mistake. Who cares what the news is...why would I be interested if they can't even spell? Did I tell you that there's a daycare around the corner that had a sign that said, 'successfull learning'? hmmm. They fixed it. After 2 weeks!! OH and the elementary school has a sign that says, 'no busses'. Although the school did e-mail me back (yes, I e-mailed them because I couldn't bear the thought of it being a SCHOOL and it being spelt wrong) and they told me that according to some american dictionary, it's the correct spelling. So I guess I will be half okay with it. I guess I wouldn't mind except they had 2 other signs at the school that said, 'No buses'. At least be consistent, right? Poor Gary. He can't spell to save his life and he is married to me!!!!

Dearest non-Brits,
Sorry for the confusion. It was brought to my attention that spelt is spelled wrong. Yah, how could I blog about spelling and confuse you with 'spelt'?? I guess it's a Brit thing? Anyhoozle I found this from the Oxford English Dictionary so you don't think I'm a complete idiot:
• verb (past and past part. spelled or chiefly Brit. spelt) 1 write or name the letters that form (a word) in correct sequence. 2 (of letters) make up or form (a word). 3 be a sign of; lead to: the plans would spell disaster. 4 (spell out) explain clearly and in detail.
