Happy New Year!

Lydia went to MUSC to get checked out again. She weighed in at 5lbs 12oz! Hurray! We thought she hadn't put any weight on last week and that she was still 5lbs 2oz, but the scale must've been wrong. It looks like she put on about 12oz in 2 weeks, so she is still steadily gaining almost an oz a day. She's still small of course, but she is 3 weeks away from when she was originally due, so she is a good weight right now. At this point, the doctor said weight gain is like the bottom line and what they look at the most to see if she's on track. I was a little worried thinking she hadn't gained any weight last week, so phew!

They have decided to stop her caffeine at this point. The last apnea episode she had was the day after Xmas, even though the monitor tells us she's having more. I'm not sure what they consider a real apnea episode or not. Anyway, we'll see how she does off the caffeine, so fingers crossed :)

The dogs have been slowly adjusting to Lydia. Toffee always wants to be involved but doesn't really know what to do! Chili watches out for Lydia - she even wakes up in the middle of the night to check that she's okay when she makes lots of noise.

Here's Lydia sleeping - she had pulled off the nasal cannula at this point - what's new?! She is still sleeping a lot. Every now and again she will have some awake time, which will increase over the next few months. We're excited to see her little personality start to develop.

2008 was an exciting year for me and Gary. We became first-time parents and we're enjoying it. Gary is a really good Dad; he's attentive and confident with Lydia. I am getting used to being a new mummy - it's fun and brings a whole new perspective to life. We are just thrilled that Lydia chose us as parents. We have had a lot of support along the way, and we appreciate it so much. I have just been so warmed by all the mothers reaching out to me. Most of all I should probably apologize to my Mum for ever being a lazy unhelpful bum at home, talking back to her, coming home late, hanging out with people I shouldn't and not listening to her. ha ha...

it really is amazing how much we appreciate our mothers the older we get... i am sure it is magnified after becoming a mother! :-)
